Distribution list "reply to" address does not get put into email headers
Hello, I have a SBS 2008 server with Exchange 2007. I have created a Distribution List. In Properties of the List in the Email Addresses Tab I have set the "Set as Reply" address to the list's email address. But when I send an email to the list and the email gets sent to the members of the list, if they click on "Reply" the reply is directed to the original sender not the list's email address. I have checked the headers of the email when it gets to the remote user and it does not have a Reply To: field. My question is: Is this normal behavior for Exchange 2007 or is there something else I need to configure to make replies go to the list address? I do not need any other listserve features but I do need to have the replies go to the lsit. This is the last hurdle to taking this server live. Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that's normal behavior . If the user wants to send an email with that as the reply to address, they should Send As that DL.

I was afraid of that. Since some of the members of the list are email enabled Contacts with external addresses the Send As will not work.

Then the recipients need to do a "Reply to All" It sounds like what you need is a listserver.

If you're trying to get it to behave as a listserver by having the DL's smtp address as the "Reply To" address, it's not going to work, anyway. When an external recipient replies to that email, his mail client will decide what goes into the "Reply To" field of the reply email. You don't have any control of that.
